At a gathering held in Kingston on June 30th five members of the Leeds and Grenville Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society were honoured for their volunteer service to the organization. Recipients Ann Carr, John Gardiner and Ron Shannon received Five-Year service awards, while Gloria Kenney and Barbara Driver received Ten-Year awards. The late Mike Brede, our former Vice-Chair, was also honoured posthumously.
Ann Carr, Ron Shannon and Barbara Driver (pictured) were on hand to receive their awards. Those for Gloria Kenney and John Gardiner will be presented at an upcoming Branch function.
The theme of this year’s celebrations was Volunteers Build Communities and that is certainly exemplified by our recipients who are active members of the genealogical community.
Congratulations.

On Saturday July 4th our Branch held a Yard, Plant and Bake Sale at the home of our Chair, Patti Mordasewicz. While the rain held off several hundred people came out to shop, and the organization raised $566.00 which will be used to keep our internet and telephone connections operational for the next few months.
Our thanks go out to the volunteers who donated baking, plants and “stuff”. A special thank-you to our members who helped set up and dismantle the event as well as helping during the event itself.
In recent years our Branch has struggled to cover our expenses from shrinking membership and publication sales revenues. This is one way of augmenting those funds to help us survive. If you have ideas for other ways to raise operating monies, please let us know.
