Searching for any info related to David Hillhouse (b. 1811) & wife Isabella Hutchinson (b. ca 1827/1828). David from Ayrshire; Isabella  from Romford, Essex, per  death record. Listed in the 1861 & 1871 census living in E’town,  marr 1843 per  1861 census (which would have made her only 15 or 16 at time of  marr). Likely lived there in the 1850s as  son John  listed as born  B’ville  1848, although can't find them in 1851 census. Heard that David had come over with army and am curious if anyone knows anything about Scottish regiments receiving land allotments in the area. Don't know if they met in Ont or whether she came over with him. Are there other Hutchinsons in the area who may have come from Essex.

Lineage connects with Jennet MacDonell Leonard who received her 200 acre claim by Order in Council, dated 23Feb1809, as one of the many daus of John MacDonell, elsewhere referred to as John of
Ed’sburgh, as in Wm Reid's _The Loyalists In Ontario_,on the KRR NY by Cruikshank &Watt, revised edition. Under the column heading "Where Settled...",  don't see a John MacDonell settled in RT6
(Ed’sburgh). To confuse matters, he may have owned his 200 acres in Ed’sburgh, but res in Augusta or vice versa..  Which John MacDonell of KRR NY is  fath of Jennet MacDonell ?  Would then know which KRR NY  John MacDonell to research,   Could be mistaken & John of Ed’sburgh was not in  84th regiment..  Was  told  that he was of  KRR NY, & originally from North Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Interested in tracing three Caswells who were early settlers in  Leeds County, all receiving their land grants before 1802.  They include:

1.  Lemuel Caswell   a well-known United Empire Loyalist from Kingsbury, NY who received several land grants in both Landsdowne & E’town twsps for his service in the Queen’s Loyal Rangers.  Wife Hannah; he several children including Phoebe (c.1789-1876) m. Peter William Clow,;  Welthy (ca.1790-1839) m. Henry Bissel 28 April, 1835;  Stephen  (c.1791-?) m. Mary (Polly?);  Mary (c.1796-?), Zacharias, Jesse, & ChristianHave census records for 1797, 1801, & 1802 in Johnstown District Municipal Records.  Have no census records after 1802 for this family.  Have a record that shows that Welthy petitioned & received 200 acres of land as daug of an United Empire Loyalist.  Her land grant dated 16 August, 1816.

2.  William Caswell  In his land petition  dated 23 Jan, 1798,  describes himself as an “UE”.  No idea if he is related to Lemuel or where he originated but assume in one of the 13 rebellious colonies due to his“UE” status.  His petition was granted &  received 200 acres in  Rear of Leeds & Lansdowne Twsp (Lot No. 10 of Con III).    On 25 June, 1800, he & 15 others again petitioned to receive land in compensation for building an improved road from Gananague Falls to the Kingston Mills.    William,  his wife Mercy and their growing family appear regularly in the census records between 1800 and 1808 for the Rear End of Leeds& Landsdowne after which their census record ends.  Missing from the 1809 township census returns on.  In 1808 the family consisted of William & Mercy  with Harriet (c.1798 -?), Milton (c.1801 -?), Dianthe (c. 1802-?), Himan (c.1805-?), & Parthina (1807-?).

Stephen (or Steven) Caswell  received grants of land on 6 March, 1798 for properties in E’town, including the west half of lot 30 in Con III, the east half of Lot 31 in Con III, and Lot 9 of Con VII (Lot 9 shared with William Every).  In addition he granted Lot 18 & the western half of Lot 19 from Con XII in Lansdowne. prior to 17 May, 1802.  Know nothing of Stephen’s fam or res in Leeds County.

Only other info I have re these Caswells is that in the 1862 Leeds County Atlas, Lot 30 is listed as being shared by Capt. S. Caswell & W. Caswell.  The original land grants from the 1790’s provided the west half of lot 30 to the above mentioned Stephen Caswell, and the east half of Lot 30 Con III in E’town to Lemuel Caswell  Any additional info readers may have re these three individuals, their fams,  their relationship to each other would be greatly appreciated.

Researching maternal grandmother's fam  from Prescott.

Great great grandfath was William Murphy b. 1828 poss b Ireland.  Marr Temple Murphy in 1848. Her name may have been Guy,. Their son, my great grandfather, was Edward Picker Murphy b. 1855 in Prescott.  Believe. Edward marr great grandmother, Laura Annis Wallace b. ca 1852, on 30 Oct. 1877 somewhere in Grenville.  Had 3 children, Albert Lorne b.17 Aug. 1878, my grandmoth, Nettie Louise b. 3 Sep 1880 & Eva b. about 1883, all in Prescott.    In 1890, Edward died as a result of the doctor giving him the wrong medicine. At this time, Laura took a job as the housekeeper for a doctor!!! very interesting! She eventually moved to Fort William, ON (now Thunder Bay) where she lived with my grandparents, Nettie & Frank Backus. Laura died there 1917 while reading a story to my mother who was 3 at the time.   Laura had fam left in Prescott, someone named Sarah Murphy, Mrs. Mary Hutchcroft of Pittston, Mrs. M MacDonald of Shanly, Mrs. H. L. Soper of Iroquois, Mrs. W. Armstrong of Cardinal, Mrs. James Raney of St. Catharines & Mr. D. Wallace of North Dakota.   Any of these fams  still in the area?

Hoping to fill in blanks on William & Temple Murphy e.g. birth, marr , death dates & place of internment.  Wonder if either William or Edward was in militia in area. Would there be any militia roster of names?

Trying to trace my husb's lineage.  Are back to Oran (Orean, Oren, Orin, Orrin) D. Rogers (Rodgers, Roggers), b 1837, living in Gan.  Found in census in Leeds South.  Haven’t found names of Oran Day Rogers’ prnts.  Found that Oran D. Rogers b. 1837 marr Sarah Meggs,  was a Methodist.  Two other Orrin   b about same time that are Baptist or Unitarian.  Oran Day Rogers ( husband's anc & Meth) had son born 1872, also named Oran Day but called  "Oda", still raised  Meth.  From census saw that Oran's fath was b in the US &  moth  b in Eng. A couple of leads:  First, John A. Rogers, born in NY, moved to Leeds, marr to woman  b in Scotland.  John A. Rogers was a Methodist minister.  The other might be Hiram Rogers, but  don't know much about him.   Hiram came from US, but where wife born or her name unknown.  Hiram Rogers was  blacksmith as was Oran Rogers--but many Rogers' of that day were blacksmiths.  Hiram was  Universalist, so may not be Oran's fath.
