Looking for information on marriage of Edward Joseph Burns. Born in B’ville

July 1883, died in B’ville July 1924; son of Thomas & Mary Burns. In 1911 census was living at home 48 Perth Street. His WWI attestation papers (1915) list him as widower with daughter (Kathleen Mary Golden Burns). There is a Mary Quigley Burns who died in B’ville in August 1914 but death certificate names her parents (Thomas and Catherine Quigley) &

not her husband. Anything to prove or disprove that she was his wife would be appreciated.

TuttleGenealogy@aol.com

Jonathan Tuttle listed as a UEL "Loyalist" and he probably was a son of Stephen Tuttle, who had traveled with seven sons from NY to Montreal and then to NS all on foot. Amazing story of Stephen's wife later walking with seven more children over the same route. She had to leave a new born infant behind in NY. They settled in Wallace and Wallace Bay, but might be found in Pugwash and other locations. Would welcome any additional data on the Tuttle family.

My wife is a Weatherbee and the Weatherbee (Whetherby) family was in the same locations.

Search: Tuttle, Pingree, Ellershaw, Stetson, Weatherbee, Carcieri, Parisi + McCreary

This is not the William PARKIN builder of the first Canadian made iron-hulled steamer in 1843.

Have reason to "suspect" that Jonathan FULFORD’s son (also Jonathan) MAY be the fath of an ill. female child -Eleanor. In 1797 Census for E’town there is an "Eleanor Hagerman"... unknown whether this is adult or child, listed above two Clows followed by John Hagerman. Find no Eleanor Hagerman as dau of John Hagerman (UE) & Phoebe Ferguson, perhaps she is a granddaughter (of whom I haven't been previously aware).

In the 1801 Cenus for E’town.... I see: (spellings and sequence as appear in the Census... The family of John Hagerman & Mary (Maria LaRue) Hagerman appear directly above the following entries: (John Hagerman is s/o John Hagerman (UE), & sis of Jane Hagerman)

Louis Bisnet Adult male

Jane Bisnet Adult female

Eleanor Fulford female child

Joseph Bisnet male child.

Then in 1802 and 1803 Elizabethtown Census

John Hagerman Adult male

Mary Hagerman Adult female

Sara Hagerman female child

Lewis Bisnet Adult Male

Jane Bisnet Adult Female

Eleanor Bisnet female child

Joseph Bisnet male child

Here is what I DO know about Jane (Hagerman) Bissonnette: She was the d/o John Hagerman & Phoebe Ferguson (name appears as Jane on sis Mary's petition for land); was bapt Schendectady NY October 30, 1774 (as Jannetje Hegeman - with parents Jannetje & John Hegeman ) Before 1796 Jane was working for Joel Stone (UE) as his "housekeeper".... Joel was between marriages (-his first wife (Leah Moore) d 1793) Joel & Leah had two children - William Moore Stone & Mary Stone in the 1780's.... Joel marries again in 1799 to Abigail Cogswell (Widow of Abraham Dayton(UE))). Joel Stone was a J.P. (and founder of Gananoque). Jane Hagerman had his ill. son Joseph in 1796. In Joel Stone's Will (written 1833) he leaves to "Joseph Hagerman" s/o (the then deceased) Jane (Hagerman) Bissonnette - land bequeathment). Jane died prior to Feb 23, 1813, when her husb - Louis Bissonnette mar 2nd. Francoise Gauvin in Cape Sante, Quebec. (He shown as "Widower of Janay Hagerman" in the marriage register).

Any info on Jonathan or his bro Abel appreciated.

John Loverin made a loyalist claim March 1786 at Halifax to settle in New Carlisle, Bay de Chaleur, District of Gaspe . Documents to say he settled, is listed No 41 /John Loverin / 229/14/0 (the last numbers I believe is the amount as it is the same numbers as on the claim.) It says that he was a farmer who fled and served on the HMS Warwick under command of Capt Clayton 15 July 1783 to 25 March 1784.

John Loverin, Blacksmith made a request for settlement from Kingston 1797 and Jas Richardson, Master of the Kingston Packet says he knew him for about four years.(8 Nov 1797).

Believe this to be the same person as the name not a common name and may have come from Lovering. The fact that both have connections to ships strengthens the belief. The stories in the Leeds Grenville history strengthens the thought as he was a traveler.

Looking for proof from him (John) to his son Josiah Loverin. Josiah also received land from his soldier duties as a militiaman in a Flank Company of the First Regiment of Leeds Militia (War 1812). His second wife was Elizabeth Shaver DUE daughter of Adam P Shaver KRRNY

Josiah Loverin's will distributes his property (below). Lists his sons as Norris(oldest), Jonathon (Second) Nelson (Third) & Simeon(fourth). Daughters: Catharine Beedle(from first marriage), Amanda Blake, Adeline Bates, Lydia Loverin, Evelia Loverin, Dalia Loverin & Nancy Loverin

Con X Lot 1 Hungerford, County of Hastings in the Midland District (Norris)

Con XI Lot 27 Elizabethtown, Leeds(Nelson,Simeon)

Con VIII Lot 27 Elizabethtown, Leeds (Norris, Nelson, Simeon)

Con 1 Lot 19 Russell in the county of Russell, District of Ottawa (Jonathon)

Con 7 Lot 23&24 Wolford, County of Grenville, District of Johnstown (Jonathon)

Con 6 Lot 4 Kiltey, District of Johnstown(Catharine Beedle)

The 1862 Atlas lists the following:

John Loverin at ConVIII Lot 27 E’town,Leeds; B Loverin Con IX Lot 27 E’town, Leeds;

N Loverin Con IX Lot 27 E’town, Leeds; Norris Loverin Con VIII Lot 37 E’town, Leeds

S Loverin Con III Lot 19 Kitley, Leeds; S Loverin Con IX Lot 27 E’town, Leeds

Just wondering if there is anything in the land records that would list Josiah as John's son in E’own for Con VIII or XI for Lot 27?

A gentleman in Ireland & I are collecting info on every NOBLET(T) family that ever existed in Ireland!! Don't laugh! He is working on Ireland because of access to original parish registers held in local custody. I try to pull US & Canadian lines together. We have lines from 4 very specific locations...Cork, Wicklow, Wexford & Carlow. Most research involves the latter 3 locations. Cork line is the "famous" line & more documentation is available on them. The major settlement of linen makers/weavers at Lisburn, N. Ireland, has disappeared. Many of the southern lines probably originate from Lisburn. Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford were early Huguenot settlements with their own churches & ministers. Carlow, as a distinctive entity, faded out of existence prob as late as the mid 1700s. Since all 3 provinces are included in the Dioceses of Ossory & Leighlin, borders have become blurred. While sifting through, & adding to, material, patterns begin to emerge which leads me to my question!

In 1901 Census of Grenville, there is a Daniel Noblet(t) & fam. He had died by the 1911 Census & his widow, Sarah McLean Noblet(t) was in B’ville. The given name, Daniel, does not show up in Ireland. We want to obtain more data. "Would there be a marriage record available for Daniel & Sarah and, if there is one, would it give the names of Daniel's parents?" The census says Daniel was born Ireland 1836, arrived in Canada 1846. So, prob marr after 1854 (just a guess.) Cannot determine an arrival ship so cannot find who he traveled with from Ireland.

Inquiring about the Brundages. Am a direct desc of Barney (nickname: Barnabus) Brundage Bryant (Elizabethtown, Leeds Co. 1856-1950), son of Guy Edward Bryant (abt. 1823- 1863 died Kingston Penitentiary) & Mary Bryant (Nov. 18, 1819 – Nov. 18, 1910). She died in Brockville & is buried in Oakland Cem. Mary was a Brundage & was said to have been born at Brundage Corners, Maynard,, Grenville Co. Ont. ( according to her obit) and according to her death record was the daughter of Joseph Brundage and Phoebe Mattleton. All of the records searched have not shown any Mattleton’s so I believe she may have been Phoebe Nettleton. Would you have any more information on this line? Guy Edward Bryan(t) was the son of William Bryan & Margaret Kendrick of Wolford & grandson of the Rev. John Bryan of Prescott & Cornwall, Ontario (U.E.L.). Wish for any info on his grandparents: Gloryeaner French & Rev. John Bryan, He was the chaplain to Major Jessup’s Corp. Have the following sources: Early Ontario Settlers, by Crowder; American Loyalist Claims, Vol. I by Coldham; and Augusta: Royal Township Number Seven by Goldie A. Connell.

William & Guy actually lived on Loyalist grants from John Bryan’s service to the crown. Gloryeaner was the sis of Jeremiah & Gershom French and was related to many French’s in Cornwall, Stormont Co., Ont. Her bro was a parliamentarian & many of fam lived in Maple Grove area. She seems to have disappeared when her husband the REV. was exposed to have false papers as a minister. Some say she died in E’town others say she went back to New York.

TODD--Looking for info on fam of Thomas TODD & wife Ann, children Ann, George, Thomas, Elizabeth, Rebbeca, Mary, John, William, Christiana, Robert, Reuben & Hannah that were on the 1861 census in Enumeration District 3, Matilda Township, Dundas County. It says the oldest 5 children are Family Members that are Absent. I know where Thomas & Rebecca are. The family left La Chute, Quebec before coming to this area then most went to Malone NY. Think that the fath, Thomas, must have died in Matilda Twsp as he is not bur with wife in Malone, New York. Any leads??

Daughters Christiana (1861), Rebecca & Mary (1862) are married there. Can anyone tell me what part of Matilda Twsp Enumeration District 3 would have been in at that time?

ROURKE, ARMSTRONG, RUSSELL

Have a copy of a death certificate for Jane Dorcas ROURKE, born 17 February 1847 in Ed’sburg, Jane's parents are listed as James ARMSTRONG & Dorcas RUSSELL, both of Ireland. [The FamilySearch website has an IGI Record listed for a marriage between "James Armstrong" & "Dorcas Russel" on 1 August 1927 in Drumkeeran, Fermanagh, Ireland, but I do not know if this is the same couple.] Grandmoth's genealogy notes from 1913 list several children for this couple -- John (m. mary McInnis), William, Mary (m. 'a Campbell), Jane, James, & Allie (m. Edward Foster). Jane ARMSTRONG married John ROURKE, probably before 1866. The 1871 Census lists the household of John ROARK (29 / Joiner and Carpenter / Irish / Anglican) in Matilda, Dundas District.

The 1881 Census lists the following household in Morrisburg, Dundas Co.:

William ARMSTRONG / 40 / Farmer / Ont; Dorcus ARMSTRONG / 71 / Ireland

Mary Campbell / 20 / Servant / Ont; John RORK / 45 / Carpenter / Ireland

Jane D. RORK / 34 / Ont; James RORK / 14 / Ontario; Adda RORK / 12 / Ont;

Mary C. RORK / 10 Ont; George R. RORK / 1 / Ontario

The 1891 Census lists the following household in Matilda, Dundas Co..:

RORKE, John / 49 / House Carpenter / Ireland; RORKE, Jane / 43 / -- / Ont

RORKE, James / 24; RORKE, Mary / 22; RORKE, Adda / 18;

RORKE, George / 12; RORKE, William / 9; RORKE, Ellen / 6

ARMSTRONG, Dorcas / 85 / Ireland

Jane ROURKE died 21 March 1930 at 174 Church Street B’ville, Ontario. Her length of residence at place of death is listed as '23 years'. Son, William R. ROURKE of the same address is listed as the informant. Jane ROURKE bur in Iroquois Anglican Cem. Am desc from Jane's & John's dau, Mary Catherine ROURKE, who marr Jesse Floyd MILLER of New York. Their dau, Gertrude Jane, was grandmoth. Would like to learn more about the ARMSTRONG family -- especially to confirm when they emig, where in Ireland they were from. Also like to learn anything there is to know on John ROURKE, especially his place of birth and date of emigr from Ireland.

To share: Our family has a wonderful 4-generation photo of Dorcas RUSSELL, Jane ARMSTRONG, Mary Catherine ROURKE, & Gertrude MILLER. (Dorcas' death certificate notes that she died at age 102, although suspect that is a bit of an exageration -- but photo dates to c.1900.) Also fam has photos of James, Mary, Adda, & Ellen & perhaps George & William. Would send a digitized photo to any other descs. Have seen postmarks from Gan on letters from grandmother's things dated ca 1950s, or so believe there may still be descs in area.
