Looking for info re Cecil JOHNSTON (may have used the surname PARISH) bd Aug 6 1900. Cecil was 'adopted' by Samuel Johnston & lived on the family farm in Lansdowne 1906 to 1918?  Can you help me out? If I can find where my father lived 1900 and 1906 that should tell us who his birth parents were.  The government will not open any records until twenty years after Dad's death so we have another eight years to go; am hoping that something will turn up in the 1901 census. Dad had to have been somewhere from his birth Aug 6 1900 & his adoption by Samuel JOHNSTON in 1906. If that info can be found it will give us a clue to whom his birth parents were. Dad always used the name JOHNSTON; we were raised as Johnston's.

Need info re gr grandparents who are buried in Oakland Cemetery (William & Catherine LEACH). In particular, looking for the birthdate & date of Wm’s passing ... my records indicate he died in 1938, but I do not have the specific date; gr grmoth Catherine died on Jan 11, 1956. Interestingly, I have a copy of his newspaper obituary (given to me by my grandfather, however, the date was cut off). According to the obituary, my great grandfather's remains were taken by rail from Chalk River to Brockville's Union Station. The funeral procession from the station to Oakland Cemetery was held on a Thursday ... the service at the cemetery was conducted by Rev Rural Dean S.E. Morton.   William was actually a long time resident of Chalk River Ontario (he died at the Cottage Hospital in Pembroke) but was born in B’ville sometime in 1854. He was the eldest son of Luke LEACH & Sarah HAZELWOOD (both buried in Oakland Cemetery). William took his apprenticeship as a blacksmith and mechanic with his father Luke at the family's blacksmith shop at 26 Perth Street (Luke's brother-in-law Thomas Price was his partner). Upon Luke's retirement, the business was sold to an apprentice Jonathan Borthwick. William did not stay with the family business & moved to Sault Ste. Marie & ultimatey, Chalk River, to begin a long career with the CPR.  Hoping that you can help me fill in some of these blanks ... - birthdate & date of death of William Henry LEACH (1854? - 1938?); William's father, Luke Leach (1825-1902);  William's mother, Sarah HAZELWOOD (1835-1926)

Also info on gr gr grt grandparents ...William Henry LEACH (1780‑1878) & Elizabeth LEACH (1791‑1874) ... parents of Luke Leach of above. Both are buried in Franktown Cemetery, a few kilometres north of Smith's Falls.  The Leach family had strong roots in Eastern Ontario ... particularly in Beckwith & Ramsay Township in Lanark County. Many  anc settled in this area when they arrived from Ire in the late 1700's & early 1800's. Have visited the cem in Franktown & found the gravesites of William & Elizabeth. Unfortunately, the inscriptions on the tombstones are very worn & it's now impossible to make out maiden name of Elizabeth. Other membs of fam claim it's either LUMMOX, LUMAS OR LEMAY. Am hoping that cem recs will reveal this info.  William & Elizabeth settled on Lot 12, Con 9 in Beckwith Twp.  Elizabeth died on Apr 16, 1874 & William on Jan 31, 1878.   William's parents, William LEACH  & Anne EDWARDS (my gr gr gr gr grparents). Only  info  is on Anne ... she dau of Henry & Elizabeth EDWARDS, born  Ire. on June 25, 1752; mar William LEACH in Ire on June 15, 1777. All 7 children  born  Ire but  believe only 5 came to Can (William Henry born 1780, Eliza ... no data, Susan born 1788, Samuel born 1799 & Esther born 1801). Do not know  year that  fam emig or if William came to Can .. may have died in Ire. Anne did come .. prob ca1810  - 1820. She lived on the 9th Con in Beckwith; prob died there  June 23, 1827. Could not find Anne's tombstone in Franktown Cemetery. Wish to confirm her final resting place.

Have been unable to overcome a brick wall in the genealogy research on my DRAPER family,  .Luke T.DRAPER   gr-grandfather  was a tailor in Farmersville from the mid-1850s until his death in 1872.   Unable to locate  documentation of  death. The originals of  records for several early years of civil registration are missing from Ontario Archives &  unable to locate any burial records.

(1) Is there a burial record for the Lyn Cemetery? Have personally walked the cemetery in the hopes of finding a clue.(There is a possibility that Luke Draper was bur Lyn since the Athens Cem had not been established.-a second cousin remembered being taken as a child to such a location by her grmoth). His grave marker could have been on of the several unidentified stones that were set up later along the perimeter..    (2) Have been unable to confirm his mar to Esther Ann WESTON of Edwardsburg township in 1860.  Need to find this record.

Is the Samuel PENNOCK in L&G  the same Samuel PENNOCK who moved with his family (most of the family of Samuel PENNOCK & Thankful BOARDMAN) from Connecticut to Strafford, VT & later joined Burgoyne's army and fought at Saratoga.  Upon returning to Strafford when Burgoyne's army was defeated,  Samuel & his family were treated very badly ("deprived of every little effects") by the Americans .  He & his wife were held prisoner & his children were "distributed among the neighborhood" - from his own accounts, 1792 & 1793.  Had  9 children &  all moved to Can with him.

Have been to Bennington many times over the years and have spent time in the wonderful genealogical library at the Museum. Have photographs of Daniel BURRITT's homestead on Sandgate just outside of Arlington, Vermont.  Recently learned who Lucretia BURRITT MERRICK'S parents were _ Clement BURRITT & Martha ADAMS.   can now trace  Burritt connection back to about 1100 A.D.  Would be most interested in finding out more about them...why did they move to Mattawa for instance. Also are there any photographs of them in anyone's family albums. Have seen Martha's gravestone on the Mattawa site, but didn't find Clement’s.  Where is he buried? If anyone is interested in Hiram & Lucretia's fam of 12 children, can help.  Have found info on all grmoth's sibs.  Grmoth was Ruth MERRICK WILSON, 1869 to 1962 who mar Thomas Frank WILSON, 1865    On  MERRICK side, Hiram MERRICK, who mar Lucretia BURRITT, was son of Stephen MERRICK & Margaret BROWN, dau of Nathan BROWN.  Stephen MERRICK died 1830 & Margaret remar to James DUNN & had 3 other children.  If anyone wants info this line, have that as well.

Some time ago a family connection said that anc, Jesse PURDY, had been mar to a Ruth KENNICOT but over time have been unable to find any reference to a fam named KENNICOT. (This info came from the publication by Reid of the Loyalist sons and daughters) In a book edited by Russ Waller found reference to Jesse Purdy's wife as being Ruth PENNOCK. In checking other books & online in connection with United Empire Loyalist material found number of references to PENNOCK.  Have documented my ancestry to Anna PURDY, a granddaughter of Jesse PURDY, so anything that you might find which could advance this line would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for identity of four peouple (couples pictured), related fams lived in Leeds Co from ca 1820 (Rear Yonge twsp, Leeds south, Lansdown, Escott, etc) & in recent times.  Peel Co early 1800's & early 1850's, several mvd to Walkerton, brant twsp, Bruce Co from 1861 to 1881.  Affiliated fams mvd to Sault Ste marie area in 1881.  Fam surnames associated with both pics: BAILE, HORTON, SPICER, WEBSTER, NUTTALL, FERGUSON, KENNY, NIXON, SCOTT, KNIGHT, HARKLEY, GEARY, BRIDGES.

Picture A: Gentleman standing and woman seated

These two people were supposedly from Ireland ca 1802-06.  The man mustered up in Ireland, served in the British Army in India from ca 1821-46 when returned to England (Chelsea pensioner) returned to Ireland, worked temporarily as a guard in the British Military jail, Kilmainham, Dublin.  He died in Northampton, England 1868 and the woman supposedly came to Canada about 1869/70 to Brant township.  Her place of death and burial remain unknown after several years of researching through many sources.

Picture B: Couple seated together

The man is unknown and the woman may be his wife (widowed and remarried).  The picture is found in a SCOTT family bible.  Their names remain a mystery as they are not necessarily of the surname SCOTT, possibly BAILE or NIXON.

Would greatly appreciate the assistance of readers who are researching any of above surnames or are able to identify any one of the four individuals in either photo.
