Seeking
information about my great grandmother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Williams.
According to US Census, Betsy was born in Canada in 1825. She
married Abel Cummins and they had 11 children. They spent some time in
Canada and some in Clinton County, USA. In the Canada Census of 1851, they
were residing in Edwardsburgh, Grenville County. I would like to find out
where Betsy was born and when and where they were married.

Since a previous enquiry it has been proved that Lois Hurd who marr my anc Daniel Scott (Loyalist) & was buried in the Scotsmore Cemetery near Sweetsburg in the Eastern Townships of Quebec was not the daughter of Col. Burritt. She was born a Hurd & have located the info on Lois Hurd's ancestry. Still have her daughter-in-law to locate. She was Keziah Martin & her moth Mary Martin both buried in the Scottsmore Cemetery at Sweetsburg PQ. Think her moth is Polly Baas who marr Richard Martin also a Loyalist as Polly is often the name for Mary.

Some COMSTOCK/ EYRES info from: Marilyn Sapienza msapienza@cox.net
Levi Comstock a proven Loyalist lived at Leeds; stepson to Ephraim Eyers, also a Loyalist Levi's wife, Abigail, was stepdaughter of Charles Griffin, a UEL. Ephraim & Charles were both taken as prisoners during the War; Ephraim was taken on a scouting mission & spent 6 years in the Albany jail before he escaped. Charles Griffin was taken prisoner at the Battle of Bennington in Aug 1777 and had his property confiscated in Castleton VT. Levi, as a proven Loyalist, settled in 1784, stepson of Ephraim Eyers he had also been a drummer, which I can't verify. His name appears as proven on the Loyalist Lineage organization. Levi's sisters: Sylvia Comstock, who married William Merrick, founder of Merrickville & Lavinia Comstock, who married Capt. Thomas Smythe, founder of Smith's Falls and also had son, Terrence, whose wife was related to Benedict Arnold. Levi's brother: Aaron Comstock, marr Phoebe Elliot of Leeds Levi died in 1804; Aaron died in 1802/03; Ephraim Eyers died in 1802. Besides having Comstock stepchildren, Ephraim was the father of Closson Eyers & Phoebe Eyers, who marr William Mallory of Mallorytown. Ephraim was an intelligence man, i.e., spy and was taken while on a scouting mission. He had served two periods in the French and Indian Wars under Loudon and had been a Corporal in Roger Steven's unit under Benedict Arnold BEFORE Arnold became a traitor. That period of service was May 1 - Dec 1775. In 1776, Ephraim enlisted in Jessup's Corps and was a private. Charles Griffen was also a private in Jessup's Corps.

I am seeking information on the families of the
following married couple:
Joseph FLETCHER, 38, resident of
Hamilton, born England, son of Luke and
Mary (Bess) maried 31 Dec 1863 Catherine
DESJARDINS, age 24, resident of Cornwall, born on Indian Land, daughter of James
and Eliz (Taillon). Their marriage was witnessed by James
Davey of Cornwall and performed by L.S. Clonner, parish priest of Cornwall,
Canada West.
Joseph Fletcher was a blacksmith and
after their marriage they lived in Hamilton Ontario. I have
found a Joseph Fletcher, blacksmith,
in Cornwall, before their marriage so it could be that he widowed and married
Catherine. Two of their daughters moved to California and died there.
Their death records gave their mother's maiden name as Gardiner.
So I could be looking for a family of GARDINERS
(being the English translation of Desjardins)
then again maybe it was just easier. Their mother was French speaking.
When one of the daughters died, the lawyer looking after her estate wrote and
asked in anyone knew the whereabouts of Felix MERCIER which I suspect could have been someone related to her
mother who was still living in this area.

Trying to locate any info on grfath John Hamilton HOUGHTON. Birth place listed as in “Glen Buell”. Have learned there were many Houghton in Farmersville (Athens) area which is close to Glen Buell. Speculating that he was born out of wedlock & his mother’s name was HOUGHTON; she raised him until sometime in 1862 when she gave him to his father William BEARD of Lyn. Further evidence that John Hamilton HOUGHTON was related to William BEARD is that in William’s will he gave everything to John Hamilton HOUGHTON & referred to him as “the man now living with me” John Hamilton sold all the land under the name of Baird & then moved the fam to Western NY State.

From “Historical Sketch of Carleton County, Ontario” by Courtney C.J. Bond 1971
“Stephen BLANCHARD, Sebra BEEMAN and Richard GARLICKwere the first white men who entered the Township to make any permanent stay. The former located at the site of the present Village of North Gower, in 1820: Mr. Beeman in the 2nd Concession, about a mile lower down, on the main branch of Stevens’ Creek, in 1821; and Mr. Garlick about a mile above the mouth of Stevens’ Creek, Lot 24, Con 1 on the bank of the Rideau, either the same year, or in 1822. These were all lumbermen, and all descendants of U.E. Loyalists from the front Townships. They all had a number of men about them, many of whom, with their families, afterwards became permanent settlers. They themselves, however, did not bring in their own families to live till after 1823” page 238 “The Garlicks and Blanchards removed to the United States, or the western part of Upper Canada. Some years afterwards Mr. Garlick was a man of considerable importance in the community. He kept the first public house in the Township, and built one of the first boats on the Rideau – the “Bytown”. Mr. Beaman was drowned at Becket’s Landing, on the Rideau, in 1832. A son of his, William, is now a resident of Nanotick; but did not come back to North Gower til 1826, Mr. B. moved his family in. his father (born in Germany) immigrated to Canada in 1927.

has never been a further contact than that email.

Am descended through Sarah Mallory
who marr Byron Cyrus Hutchinson. Working

to fill in & am looking for additional info.
Below is the Mallory portion of document. Have 38 Families &
128 pages of notes such as below. Am
looking for detailed info not just names, dates & places. As you see I
have added in the information about the Boating Accident which took Nathaniel's
life - I had not ever seen this before. Sarah
Mallory was born the 1st of September 1807 in Mallorytown, Leeds

Cyrus Hutchison on the 9th of June 1823. She
one of 5 children of James Mallory &
Elizabeth?? Sibs were: Enoch, James,

NOTE: Records indicate that husb Byron

Joel b in 1825, Rachael b in 1829, Russell
b in 1837. Who is Russell's fath if not Byron Cyrus
Hutchinson, or is Byron's death date wrong?
NOTE: If Byron is not Russell's father – Research will need to be
conducted to see where this line leads to. If this is the case, the
Mallory line along with the Beardsley, and French lines can be eliminated from
this family discussion. Until this can be verified it will be included.
James Mallory

for this family line stops here. Found notes indicating the Mallory

not evidence to verify this line. The surnames that go with this
line are: Driby; Plumpton; Tempest; Hamerton; Constable; Thwaites; and Norton;
