Trying to prove our lineage back to him Abel Stevens. In particular, any on info his descendants & their relationships to him? Have info from the National Archives that Abel Stevens had a son Isaac (my anc), but have a gap in proof of lineage between Isaac to William Chester toArchibald. Have seen newspaper clippings (that are apparently from the Brockville Recorder and Times) that state the relationships between these people. Also, would you have any information to prove that Abel Stevens was a loyalist?

Frank F. Mitchell Mississauga
Barbara and Paul are my 5th great grandparents through the
Bowen-Ray-Murray-Mitchell lineage. The following families are connected to
the Heck family.
Drummond, Peter {possibly spelled Drumond? & spouse of Lois Heck?};
Dulmage, John {possibly spouse of Sophia Heck?}; Dulmage, Philip; Embury,
Samuel; Ferguson, Alexander; Howard, Dyer; Mitchell, George; Mitchell, Jehiel;
Wright, Ashael; Wright, Samuel, Sr. {possibly father of Samuel & Grandfather
of Lois Wright?}; Wright, William B.; and Wright, William.
My current quest is to fill in some blanks on my
Heck-Bowen-Ray-Murray-Mitchell lineage.
1. Paul Heck 1730-1790
+ Barbara Ruckle 1734-1804
2. Jacobina "Jemima" Elizabeth Heck 1765-1788

8. Frank Ferguson Mitchell (Living)
. Donald Murray Jr was not well documented after 1872, when he went to the
USA to seek his fortune & never returned. Would like to find out what
happened to him. His Father, had a navigation business with a Mr.
George Sanderson of Brockville which they called Murray & Sanderson &
this company ran out of Montreal (possibly Brockville & Kingston as well)
between 1840 & 1850. Understand their ships are listed in the Kingston
Marine Museum & are written up
in many newspapers & a book about the River Barons of the time.
Also wish to learn about Donald Murray Jr. & his wife's family
- the Peacock's & Nolan's or Nowlan's. Since George Sanderson was from
Brockville & he & my 2nd great grandfather ran a business in the area -
1840-1850 would like to get in touch with desc
who might provide some clues. Believe Donald Jr. was listed in the 1851
Cdn Census in Prescott. Also trying to track down William Gunn (cousin of
Donald) apparently in Kingston in 1841. Any
information on the above would be appreciated.
With the assistance
of our readers we would like to compile a complete family tree of the HECK

She was Keziah Martin & her moth Mary Martin both buried in the Scottsmore Cemetery at Sweetsburg PQ. Some COMSTOCK/ EYRES info
from: Marilyn Sapienza msapienza@cox.net
Levi Comstock a proven Loyalist lived at Leeds; stepson to Ephraim Eyers, also a Loyalist Levi's wife, Abigail, was stepdaughter of Charles Griffin, a UEL. Ephraim & Charles were both taken as prisoners during the War; Ephraim was taken on a scouting mission & spent 6 years in the Albany jail before he escaped. Charles Griffin was taken prisoner at the Battle of Bennington in Aug 1777 and had his property confiscated in Castleton VT. Levi, as a proven Loyalist, settled in 1784, stepson of Ephraim Eyers he had also been a drummer, which I can't verify. His name appears as proven on the Loyalist Lineage organization. Levi's sisters: Sylvia Comstock, who married William Merrick, founder of Merrickville & Lavinia Comstock, who married Capt. Thomas Smythe, founder of Smith's Falls and also had son, Terrence, whose wife was related to Benedict Arnold. Levi's brother: Aaron Comstock, marr Phoebe Elliot of Leeds Levi died in 1804; Aaron died in 1802/03; Ephraim Eyers died in 1802. Besides having Comstock stepchildren, Ephraim was the father of Closson Eyers & Phoebe Eyers, who marr William Mallory of Mallorytown. Ephraim was an intelligence man, i.e., spy and was taken while on a scouting mission. He had served two periods in the French and Indian Wars under Loudon and had been a Corporal in Roger Steven's unit under Benedict Arnold BEFORE Arnold became a traitor. That period of service was May 1 - Dec 1775. In 1776, Ephraim enlisted in Jessup's Corps and was a private. Charles Griffen was also a private in Jessup's Corps.

DESJARDINS, age 24, resident of Cornwall, born on Indian Land, daughter of James

Joseph Fletcher was a blacksmith and
after their marriage they lived in Hamilton Ontario. I have
found a Joseph Fletcher, blacksmith,
in Cornwall, before their marriage so it could be that he widowed and married
Catherine. Two of their daughters moved to California and died there.
Their death records gave their mother's maiden name as Gardiner.
So I could be looking for a family of GARDINERS
(being the English translation of Desjardins)
then again maybe it was just easier. Their mother was French speaking.
When one of the daughters died, the lawyer looking after her estate wrote and
asked in anyone knew the whereabouts of Felix MERCIER which I suspect could have been someone related to her
mother who was still living in this area.

Trying to locate any info on grfath John Hamilton HOUGHTON. Birth place listed as in “Glen Buell”. Have learned there were many Houghton in Farmersville (Athens) area which is close to Glen Buell. Speculating that he was born out of wedlock & his mother’s name was HOUGHTON; she raised him until sometime in 1862 when she gave him to his father William BEARD of Lyn. Further evidence that John Hamilton HOUGHTON was related to William BEARD is that in William’s will he gave everything to John Hamilton HOUGHTON & referred to him as “the man now living with me” John Hamilton sold all the land under the name of Baird & then moved the fam to Western NY State.

From “Historical Sketch of Carleton County, Ontario” by Courtney C.J. Bond 1971
“Stephen BLANCHARD, Sebra BEEMAN and Richard GARLICKwere the first white men who entered the Township to make any permanent stay. The former located at the site of the present Village of North Gower, in 1820: Mr. Beeman in the 2nd Concession, about a mile lower down, on the main branch of Stevens’ Creek, in 1821; and Mr. Garlick about a mile above the mouth of Stevens’ Creek, Lot 24, Con 1 on the bank of the Rideau, either the same year, or in 1822. These were all lumbermen, and all descendants of U.E. Loyalists from the front Townships. They all had a number of men about them, many of whom, with their families, afterwards became permanent settlers. They themselves, however, did not bring in their own families to live till after 1823” page 238 “The Garlicks and Blanchards removed to the United States, or the western part of Upper Canada. Some years afterwards Mr. Garlick was a man of considerable importance in the community. He kept the first public house in the Township, and built one of the first boats on the Rideau – the “Bytown”. Mr. Beaman was drowned at Becket’s Landing, on the Rideau, in 1832. A son of his, William, is now a resident of Nanotick; but did not come back to North Gower til 1826, Mr. B. moved his family in. this family discussion. Until this can be verified it will be included.

My
GGGF Robert Cooke died of some disease in Brockville 1838-1848 time frame. His wife
S Jane Griffith immediately farmed out kids to his relatives and she ran off
with and married? an American, never seeing her 5 Cooke children again. She had more children wjth her second husband in the USA. Place, names are unknown to me.
With this scenario I doubt there is a marker anywhere unless his
children John Cooke bn 1828 or Joseph Cooke bn 1833 placed one later.
The Cooke children of Robert Cooke and S Jane
Griffith* were all baptised at St Peter’s Rob McGinn in Thunder Bay Anglican
Church but there is no sign of Robert dying or being buried there.
So where could he be??

One
of my gr grfaths, Thomas Lake was a farmer with his brothers in White Creek New
York from about 1761 to 1777, when he joined the Queens Loyal Ranger in
Skeensborough NY. Member of Lt Col
Peter's Corp, Thomas' son in law was a Lieutenant in the same unit and believe
he served under & was recruited by Captain Justus Sherwood. The Battle
of Bennington, VT was basically fought on his farm which was part of a 4 person
land grant known as the Van Corlear, 2 of these people were Thomas' brother and
Van Corlear was his brother in law. As with most loyalist they had to
leave New York State as their land had be seized, so they went to Canada and as
far as I can tell settled in Wolford Grenville Co. Thomas died there
in 1813 at the age of approx 70 yrs. Several
names related to Thomas through in-law relationships. The Wilse
Family is one, Thomas' daughter Jane married James Wilse. Thomas and
his family as listed in the census reports for Wolford, Grenville for
the years 1802, 1804, 1805, 1806 and 1813 so far.
