INTRODUCTORY
GENEALOGY
Leeds
and Grenville Branch to offer a course in September, October
In response to several inquiries the L & G Branch of the
Ontario Genealogical Society will be offering a beginners course in genealogical
methods Thursday evenings, beginning September 10th. The course will
be held in the Brockville Museum.
The course will instruct participants on basic
genealogical sources and techniques. Sources such as vital statistics (birth,
marriage and death records), census data, land records, cemetery publications
(tombstone data) church records, ships’ passenger lists etc. will be covered.
The use of computers for research and for genealogical
record keeping will be the subject of one night’s presentation. There will
also be a session on searching United Empire Loyalist data and the steps
necessary to establish the connections necessary to become a U.E. member.
While the sources and techniques are universal and may
be applied wherever your ancestors came from or settled, the illustrations and
teaching materials will be drawn from and focus on Leeds and Grenville.
The sessions will be led by five or six different
members of the local Society with each teacher presenting on his or her
particular expertise and/or area of interest.
Registration for the course will be $50 and will
include all course materials. People wishing more information should call
(613-342-7773) or e-mail (leedsgrenvillegenealogical@bellnet.ca) the Society and
leave their name and ‘phone number or e-mail address and someone will get back
to you.
